I woke up today and saw a lot of devastating photos and videos on my Facebook feed about the recent calamity to hit my beloved Philippines. I got tired of seeing the shared posts of people on Facebook about ways how to help #YolandaPH victims. I realized that I wanted to take action and actually do something and not just share the information on how to help in the hopes of having someone else do it. So I am going to host my own charity event.

In less than 10 hours, I managed to plan and organize it. I asked around for information, well I mostly posted my questions on Facebook and my fabulous friends were able to answer all of it right away. I will have to mention my heartfelt thanks and utmost gratitude to Maricel, the owner of Rosso Amore Restaurant – who, after only one WhatsApp message gladly and willingly accepted my proposal of having the benefit lunch/dinner at her restaurant. Without her, I wouldn’t be able to finalize and organize this plan.

Important notes though: I, together with Maricel, have personally arranged this event. We are not working for, nor affiliated with any charity organizations. We will be doing this event out of our own concern for the people who are affected by the biggest typhoon in the world. Rosso Amore Restaurant is willing to donate half of the what we are able to collect from the ticket stubs that we will be selling. The price of the ticket is AED60, AED30 will be donated to this cause while the other half is for her to be able to provide us all the delicious food for this lunch/dinner – which I truly believe is fair since this is not a sponsored event. After the event, I will be posting how much ticket stubs were sold and how much money was donated to World Vision for transparency. I will also be posting the air way bill from LBC as soon as the in-kind goods are delivered to their office in Karama.

Now, the easy part is over and I will be facing the hard part – to spread the word of this event and get some people to join it. Here comes your part, my dear readers. Please, please, please spread the word and help me make this event a huge success. Please be informed that I am not getting paid to do this and I really am not after the publicity of my blog to host this kind of event. My intention is merely to help the people who were greatly affected by the typhoon.

Tourists as volunteers in the Philippines.

Who can join? Anyone! Anyone who’s got a good heart to help out the people in need. Filipinos and expats alike are more than welcome to join. I have posted the event on my Facebook page, please share it to your Facebook accounts. Let’s get the word out!

What you can donate:

MEDICINES – most especially basic medicines for colds, flu and cough. Also if possible, include medicine for surface wounds as many have been wounded because of the debris and fallen rooftops.

FOOD – Canned goods. There is currently no water source in Tacloban so anything which requires cooking with water is not recommendable (noodles, etc.)

CANDLES AND MATCHES – there’s no electricity for a minimum of two months so all people will need these.

FLASHLIGHTS AND BATTERIES

CLOTHES

ALCOHOL, SANITIZERS

BLANKETS

SLIPPERS

In-kind goods will be sent thru LBC the next day, Saturday 23NOV. LBC is currently accepting donations and is willing to send all these for free.
