I’m not a big beer drinker as opposed to what you may probably think. I’d rather have a cocktail than a beer or if I had to have a beer, it will be a shandy – beer with sprite or 7-up. I don’t like how some beer taste so bitter it’s like you’re drinking a cough syrup or something. So yeah, I’m not much of a beer drinker.
There’s only one beer that I can definitely drink anytime of the day (night). It’s the Belgian beer called Belle-vue Kriek, the cherry beer.
Here in Dubai, they only have it in Belgian Beer Cafe and that’s one of the many reasons why I visit that place. When I went to Brugge, I tried this beer and I’m not very sure if my mind was just playing tricks on me or was it really that good in Brugge. It was sweeter and much more refreshing. So do take a mental note if you ever are headed to Belgium that you must try this cherry beer.
My taste palette was recently introduced to ciders, those fermented alcoholic beverage made from fruit juice. Mostly apples. I tried Brothers Strawberry Cider before and loved it! It was not too sweet and not too fizzy. The only thing that I didn’t like about it was it’s too big. Yes, I’m weird. Brothers Cider is available in Baracuda.
From then on, whenever I go to bars I normally look out for any ciders that they have. In Nell Gwynne Pub, they have Somersby – an apple cider. It’s very crisp with the right amount of sweetness and apple flavor in it.
In Left Bank, they’ve got Savanna Dry. It’s actually not my kind of cider as it’s no longer that sweet and I can already taste a hint of bitterness in it.
I tried Magner’s berry at Fibber Maggee’s which I would say is a smaller version of Brothers cider.
I think among all the above ciders, my favorite would be the Somersby. I’d really love to taste some other ciders though before I stick to a favorite one. What about you? What’s your favorite alcoholic drink?
